November 30, 2025 | Shree Nandi Ratri Secondary School | Naxal, Kathmandu
Class 4 and 5 students of Shree Nandi Ratri Secondary School, Kathmandu, experienced the fourth storytelling workshop in the ongoing series organized by the Lions Club of Kathmandu Couples. Titled Wake-Up Tiddalik, this interactive session blended global folklore, environmental awareness, and imaginative participation.
About the Story
Wake-Up Tiddalik is adapted from the Australian Indigenous story Tiddalik the Frog and reimagined for performance by Bansri Pandey. The story follows Tiddalik, a frog who drinks all the water in the land, causing drought and distress among other animals. Through cleverness, cooperation, and humor, the animals work together to make Tiddalik laugh and release the water, restoring balance to nature.
A Solo Performance with Simple Props
Performed solo by Bansri Pandey, the storytelling used only two simple props—a balloon and an air pump. As the balloon grew larger, children visually experienced Tiddalik drinking more and more water. The suspense built with every pump of air, creating both excitement and curiosity among the students.
The audience became active participants in the story. They suggested ideas, mimicked animal sounds, and eagerly waited for the turning point when the frog would finally release the water. The simplicity of the props allowed imagination to take center stage, transforming the classroom into a lively natural landscape filled with animals and anticipation.

Engagement, Creativity & Language Learning
The storytelling space was vibrant and energetic, with students fully immersed in the unfolding events. Students confidently responded in English, repeating phrases, predicting outcomes, and participating in rhythmic storytelling segments. The interactive nature of the performance encouraged creativity, strengthened listening skills, and enhanced their English language abilities in an organic and joyful way.
This workshop once again reinforced the power of experiential storytelling—where students do not just listen, but think, speak, imagine, and co-create the journey.
