About 50 students from Nursery to Class 4 at Kakshalaya Kindergarten School stepped into an imaginative and thought-provoking storytelling experience titled Sky is Falling.

About the Story

Sky is Falling is an adaptation inspired by the classic folktale often known as Chicken Little, reimagined into a participatory Forum Theatre format. The story follows a frightened chicken who believes the sky is falling and spreads panic among other animals. As fear grows and confusion spreads, the story pauses at a crucial conflict point—inviting children to step in and decide what should happen next.

A Forum Theatre in Action

Rather than offering a fixed ending, the story was intentionally stopped at the moment of tension. Students were divided into groups to discuss possible solutions. Each group reflected on the characters’ choices and brainstormed alternative actions that could prevent fear and misunderstanding from spreading.

One by one, the groups were invited onto the stage to enact their proposed solutions. The children experimented with different approaches—questioning, investigating, comforting, or reasoning with the characters—to see whether their ideas would truly resolve the problem. The students were not just audience members but became problem-solvers, decision-makers, and storytellers themselves.

Building Skills Through Story

The activity naturally nurtured communication skills as students discussed and presented their ideas. It strengthened teamwork as they collaborated within groups. Most importantly, it allowed children to understand the emotions of fear, confusion, and responsibility experienced by the characters.

The Setting & Children’s Participation

The storytelling space was filled with energy and excitement. Younger children listened attentively, while older students eagerly volunteered to share their ideas. Laughter mixed with serious discussion as students debated what the characters should do.

When groups came forward to perform their solutions, their confidence shone through expressive gestures and animated dialogue. The atmosphere was vibrant and inclusive—each child contributing in their own way. The stage became a safe space for exploration, creativity, and shared learning.
