October 14, 2025 | Interactive Forum Theatre for Class 1 of Premier International IB Continuum School, Kathmandu

Sky is Falling, presented during Literature Festival 2025 at Premier International IB Continuum School, engaged 50 Class 1 students in an interactive forum theatre experience that encouraged critical thinking, collaboration, empathy, and creative problem-solving inside a transformed magical library space.

Sky is Falling is an adaptation of the classic Chicken Little folktale. The familiar tale of a small chicken who believes the sky is falling becomes a playful yet meaningful exploration of fear, assumptions, and collective reaction. Through this reimagining, children were invited to question rumours, think critically about information, and reflect on how panic can spread — or be resolved — through thoughtful action.

The familiar quiet library shifted into an imaginative performance space where stories stepped off the pages and into action. The library became not just a setting — but a living, breathing story world. Sky is Falling was designed using a forum theatre approach. At a crucial moment of conflict in the story, the narrative paused. Instead of revealing what would happen next, the students were invited to decide.

The children were divided into small groups and asked:

  • What should the characters do?
  • How can this problem be solved?
  • What might happen if we try this idea?

Each group discussed their solutions thoughtfully and collaboratively. Then came the most exciting part — every group was invited on stage to enact their version of the solution. Together, we watched how each choice shaped the direction of the story. In that moment, the students were no longer just listeners — they were co-creators of the story.

This interactive structure allowed students to actively practice:

  • Critical Thinking – analysing the conflict and consequences
  • Creative Imagination – generating original solutions
  • Communication Skills – expressing ideas clearly in groups
  • Problem-Solving Skills – collaborating toward decisions
  • Empathy – understanding the emotions and perspectives of characters

Forum theatre creates a powerful shift — from being told what happens, to exploring what could happen. It nurtures agency, reflection, and confidence in young learners.

To Make This Event a Success, We Would Like to Thank:

  • Mrs. Pratima Laxmi and the dedicated teachers of Premier International IB Continuum School
  • All 50 Class 1 students for their participation
  • Rohit Thapa – Actor in the role of the Chicken
