On the joyful occasion of the Dasain Festival, Joy House Collective conducted two interactive storytelling performances at Milestone School, bringing together children, parents, and teachers for a shared experience of stories, rhythm, movement, and imagination. The sessions welcomed very young audiences and their families, creating a warm and festive storytelling space where learning and celebration flowed together.

The day featured two storytelling performances designed for different age groups, thoughtfully curated to meet children at their developmental stages:

• For ages 4–6: माछाको रंगीन सपना (Fish’s Colorful Dream) explored themes of dreams, individuality, collaboration, and courage. Children followed the fish’s journey as it searched for colours and meaning, gradually discovering her own strengths and uniqueness. The performance encouraged discussion, emotional expression, and imaginative thinking.

• For ages 2–4: 1, 2, 3, माछा होस् रंगीन (1, 2, 3, Let the Fish be colorful) was a more rhythmic and sensory-driven storytelling experience. Using simple sequences, repetition, songs, and movement, the youngest participants engaged with colour, sound, and rhythm in a playful and accessible way. The focus was on joy, connection, and early engagement with storytelling through the body and senses.

Both performances invited children to actively participate through movement, music, dialogue, and imagination. Parents joined in as observers and companions, turning the event into a shared family experience rather than a passive performance.

Follow-up Creative Activity

Following the storytelling, children took part in a colouring activity related to the story. Each child coloured a white fish using their own imagination and colour choices. This activity allowed each child to reflect on the story in their own way. The process helped the story stay with them beyond the performance and creating a long-term emotional connection to the narrative.

These storytelling sessions at Milestone School highlighted the power of theatre and storytelling as shared family experiences. By combining rhythm, imagination, participation, and collaborative art-making, the event created joyful learning moments that children and parents experienced together. The stories became spaces for connection, creativity, and meaningful memory-making.
