On September 8, 2025, The Joy House Collective presented माछाको रंगीन सपना (Fish’s Colorful Dream) at Purna Gyan Mandir School, Kathmandu, where 60 children aged 3–6 from Nursery, LKG, and UKG grades gathered for an interactive storytelling experience. The young audience entered the world of the Rainbow Fish with curiosity and excitement, responding warmly to the story’s rhythm and characters.

The performance invited children to explore imagination, journey, and collaboration through movement, voice, and shared participation. As the Rainbow Fish met the black and white fish, children followed the emotional shifts of the story closely—reacting, responding, and engaging with moments of curiosity, care, and discovery. The session encouraged children to listen attentively while also allowing space for expression and spontaneous responses.

Teachers became active participants in the storytelling as well, adding warmth and connection to the experience. This shared participation helped create a collaborative atmosphere where children felt supported and confident to engage. MS Binda, a teacher, who stepped into the role of a fairy during the performance, shared,

“It was a wonderful act by your team. Everyone enjoyed the story. Thank you so much for giving me this beautiful role to act as a fairy. I enjoyed it.”

The connection children formed with the story was also reflected in the school’s response. The principal Sangita Sangroula noted,

“This was a very first experience for all of us. I am very happy with my decision to invite you for the story act. The best part is children were so connected with the story.”

Throughout the session, children remained focused, expressive, and emotionally present, demonstrating how storytelling can create meaningful engagement even for very young learners.

Following the storytelling performance, students of nursery (age 3) participated in a coloring activity where they created their own versions of colorful fish, the older children of LKG and UKG (age 4-6) participated in a collaborative coloring activity focused on teamwork. Each child colored a white circle, reflecting their individual interpretation and imagination. Together, these coloured circles were brought together to form a large colourless fish, transforming it into their own version of the Rainbow Fish. This shared process encouraged cooperation, creative expression, and collective storytelling, helping children internalize the story and build a lasting connection with its message.

The session fostered joyful participation while supporting early learning skills such as listening, empathy, imagination, and social interaction. By blending story, performance, and shared experience, the children were able to connect deeply with the characters and carry the essence of the story beyond the performance.
