माछाको रंगीन सपना – A Storytelling Performance at Hetauda, Nepal

,

February 12, 2026 | An auditorium performance for 500 students of Class 1–4 at Solidarity International Academy in Hetauda, Nepal

This was The Joy House Collective’s first performance in Hetauda. At Solidarity International Academy, a large auditorium filled with young students, all waiting together. As the performance began, the wide stage slowly turned into an underwater story-world. With focused attention and growing curiosity, the children followed the story—reacting, responding, and staying connected throughout.

About the Story

माछाको रंगीन सपना (Fish’s Rainbow Dream) is about a black and white fish who dreams of a colorful world.

As the story moves forward, the fish meets others, experiences differences, and slowly begins to see new possibilities. The journey is simple, but it opens up ideas of friendship, identity, and change in a way that children can easily relate to.

A New Experience for the School

This was the first time a theatre performance designed for young children was brought to the school.

Around 500 students from Class 1 to 4 attended the show. For many of them, this was their first experience of watching a live performance in an auditorium setting.

Teachers also engaged closely with the process—role playing as a fairy as well as supporting the children, helping maintain the space, and ensuring that the energy remained focused without taking away from the excitement.

The Experience

Performing in a large auditorium brought a different rhythm. The children responded together—laughing at the same moments, going quiet when the story shifted, and staying attentive throughout the 1.5 hour performance. Even with a large group, there was a sense of shared focus.

The stage allowed for clear visibility, and the structure of the space helped the story unfold in a steady and engaging way.

For the Joy House team, this was also a first—performing in an auditorium for such a large group of young children. It required careful pacing, strong coordination, and responsiveness to the audience.

The Setting

The auditorium created a structured and immersive environment. Children were seated in rows, facing the stage, with clear attention directed towards the performance. Their reactions were immediate and collective—moments of laughter, curiosity, and silence moved across the room. The setting allowed the children to stay present with the story from beginning to end.
