माछाको रंगीन सपना (Fish’s Rainbow Dream)
December 15, 2025 | A storytelling performance for Class 2 students at Shikhar School, Lalitpur, Nepal
As the storytelling performance of माछाको रंगीन सपना began, the children leaned in—watching, reacting, and soon, feeling every moment together. There were bursts of laughter, quiet pauses, and shared excitement as the world of the fish came alive around them.

About the Story
माछाको रंगीन सपना (Fish’s Rainbow Dream) is a story written by Bansri Pandey, about a black and white fish who dreams of a world full of colors. Along the way, the fish discovers friendship, difference, and the joy of seeing the world in new ways.
As the story unfolds, it gently explores ideas of identity, belonging, and transformation—inviting children to imagine beyond what they see.
A Shared Experience Through Theatre
The performance brought together around 50 students of Class 2 in a lively and engaging space. What made the experience special was not just the story—but how it was felt together.
Children laughed together, reacted together, and experienced the emotions of the story as a group. Theatre created a space where imagination was open and free—where children could respond naturally, without hesitation.
Moments of joy, surprise, and curiosity moved through the room, creating a shared emotional journey. This is where theatre becomes powerful—not just as performance, but as a collective experience.
“This story through live acting was amazing. The actors were deep into the characters and played through the heart. Children were enjoying and living the characters. Every moment was praiseworthy. Thank you so much for the priceless moment you have given to the children as well as for the teachers.”
– Ishwori Shrestha, Teacher and Storyteller at Shikhar School

In this story, the role of the fairy was played by a teacher. This choice comes from a simple belief—that the real “fairies” in our lives are the people around us. There are no magical beings arriving to grant wishes, but there are teachers, parents, and caregivers who guide, support, and shape our journeys.
With just a little guidance, the teacher stepped into the role with ease—bringing warmth, spontaneity, and imagination into the performance. Her presence helped the children travel deeper into the magical world of the story.
After the performance, children engaged themselves in a coloring activity where they used their creativity and imagination to give colors to a blank template of a fish. This allowed them to express their perceptions and have a lasting impression in their minds.

The Experience
The space was filled with energy and engagement. Children watched closely, responded instantly, and were fully present in the story.
There were moments where they laughed out loud, and others where they quietly followed the journey of the fish. Their reactions showed how deeply they were connected—not just to the characters, but to each other.
The performance became more than something to watch—it became something they lived through together.
“Our children alongside with the teachers loved it. Really appreciate the hard work put in. Genuinely enjoyed every bit of it.”

Sometimes, a simple story can open up a world of color. Through shared laughter, imagination, and presence, children experienced what it means to feel a story together. And in that moment, the dream of a colorful world didn’t just belong to the fish—it belonged to everyone in the room.
With gratitude to all the children who brought the story to life with their joy and imagination.
