November 19, 2025 | Drama Workshop | NCCS School, Kathmandu
A four-day immersive drama workshop concluded at NCCS School, Kathmandu, with a powerful student performance titled Are You Lost?. Conducted with students of Class 3, the workshop blended storytelling, environmental awareness, and theatre-making into a meaningful creative journey.
About the Story
Are You Lost? is a short drama adapted from the book The Odd Fish by Naomi & James Jones, reimagined for the stage by Bansri Pandey. The story begins with a lost plastic bottle drifting in the ocean, mistaken by sea creatures as a strange “odd fish.” As the narrative unfolds, children explore themes of ocean pollution, belonging, misunderstanding, and the urgent impact of human waste on marine life.
The Four-Day Creative Journey
Day 1 – Experiencing the Story
The workshop began with an interactive introduction to the story. Students stepped into the ocean world through role-play, embodying sea creatures such as turtles, whales, and albatross birds. They experienced the confusion around the “odd fish” and gradually understood the deeper issue of plastic pollution. Through participation and guided interaction, the story was not merely heard—it was felt.

Day 2 – Character Building & Props Making
The second day focused on assigning character roles and creating simple props. Students actively shaped their characters, adding personal touches and creative interpretations. Crafting props became an extension of their imagination and ownership of the performance.

Day 3 – Rehearsals & Embodiment
Rehearsals began with remarkable confidence because the children had already lived the story on the first day. The script was thoughtfully designed for their age group, allowing them to speak naturally in their own pace and language. Students gradually stepped deeper into their roles, bringing emotion and authenticity to each scene.

Day 4 – Performance Day!
The final day culminated in a live performance that was recorded on camera. The stage came alive with color, movement, and powerful young voices. The students did more than perform lines—they embodied the message. Their expressions, gestures, and delivery reflected genuine understanding and awareness of water pollution and its consequences.

The Setting & Students’ Engagement
The performance space buzzed with anticipation and teamwork. Handmade props, ocean-inspired elements, and expressive costumes added charm and vibrancy to the stage. Students supported one another confidently, entering and exiting scenes with focus and coordination.
Their enthusiasm was visible in the way they projected their voices, reacted to one another’s dialogues, and responded to the emotional beats of the story. There was laughter during playful moments and seriousness during reflective scenes. The energy in the room reflected collective pride—children who had not only learned a play, but deeply connected with its message.
This workshop demonstrated how theatre can become a powerful medium for environmental education—where awareness grows naturally through experience rather than instruction.
