Workshop on Props Making for Storytelling in Kathmandu, Nepal | August 12, 2025

On August 12, 2025, The Joy House Collective conducted a Teacher’s Training Program in Kathmandu, Nepal, for educators participating in the storytelling competition organized by ECEP Nepal. The workshop brought together around 15 teachers from various schools for a hands-on learning experience focused on props making and interactive storytelling.

The training explored how everyday materials—especially waste and recyclable items—can be creatively transformed into storytelling props. Participants were introduced to different types of props, methods of making and using them, and how props can enhance engagement and interaction during storytelling sessions.

To demonstrate the power of interactive storytelling, the workshop was facilitated by Bansri Pandey, who performed The Brave Tailor—an interactive story told without using any props, relying solely on the storyteller’s body, voice, and movement. This performance highlighted how stories can come alive through physical expression and imagination alone.

Following the performance, participants were invited to reimagine the story and work in groups to create their own props using available recyclable waste materials. Each group then performed The Brave Tailor using the props they had created, bringing the learning full circle—from understanding concepts to applying them in practice.

The workshop was designed as a fully immersive experience, allowing teachers to actively engage with the ideas shared and gain practical takeaways that would support them in their storytelling competition and future classroom sessions.
