Biggest Carrot in the Farm – A Storytelling Session for Children Fighting Cancer

December 30, 2025 | An interactive storytelling session at Warming Hearts Cancer Center, Kathmandu

A simple string became a farm.
A small group became a team.
And a story slowly turned into something much more than just a story.

Inspired by the Russian folktale The Enormous Turnip, this story ‘The Biggest Carrot in Farm‘ is a story about a grandmother who grows a carrot so big that she cannot pull it out alone. One by one, other animals of the farm join in—each adding their strength, until together, they finally succeed.

Adapted and performed by Bansri Pandey, the story becomes a playful and interactive experience about teamwork, connection, and the power of doing things together.

A Shared Space of Joy and Connection

This session was conducted for about 10 children fighting cancer at the Warming Hearts Cancer Center in Kathmandu.

Through a simple, interactive performance using just a string as a prop, the children were invited to participate, imagine, and play. Along with their parents and caregivers, they slowly stepped into the story—pulling the carrot together, laughing together, and sharing the experience as one group.

For a while, the room shifted.
The focus moved away from illness—and towards joy, play, and togetherness.

Children responded with curiosity and excitement, holding the string, joining the action, and becoming part of the story. Parents and caregivers watched, smiled, and often joined in, creating a shared emotional space where everyone was present together.

The storytelling became more than an activity—it became a moment where children could feel light, hopeful, and engaged, even if just for a while.

Joy House Collective has been regularly supporting the work of Warming Hearts Nepal, contributing through storytelling sessions that aim to bring emotional connection, comfort, and joy to children in their journey.

Beyond the Story

After the storytelling session, the experience continued in a simple and meaningful way.

The Joy House team brought home-made carrot halwa for all the children. Just like in the story, where everyone came together to grow and pull the biggest carrot, the children now shared the joy of eating it together.

It completed the story—not just in imagination, but in real life.

Concluding Remarks

Sometimes, the simplest stories carry the deepest meaning.

In a small room, with a simple prop and a shared moment, children found laughter, connection, and a sense of togetherness. And in that space, the story became more than words—it became a feeling of hope.
